DESIGNER ON THE COME UP

Meet the designer of the month:
Tatiana Ways is an upcoming designer from Camden,New Jersey, who I thought would be a perfect feature on "Designers on the come up". Tatiana is the creator of her own clothing company called "Revamp apparel". I decided to give Tatiana a short interview and I found out how interesting of an artist she is.Tatiana Ways is definitely on the come up, I hope everyone keeps an eye on her work.
Where are you from?
I'm from Camden, Nj. I lived in an area called Parkside and then moved to a nicer area called Fairview. I've been here since I was 2 yrs old!
When did you start designing?
I started like REALLY designing when I was in about 9th-10th grade, but I always knew how to hand-sew since I was abt 9-10. I made small things like tutus and I recycled old clothes. Like if I had a pair of jeans, I'd make it into a side bag or just repurpose something. When I started using the actually sewing machine, I carried the machine around with me and everybody thought it was one of those bone density scanners that Will Smith carried in that movie "The Pursuit of Happiness!" Lol. I took it with me almost everywhere.
Is there any inspiration behind your collection?
Well, my collection only has 4 promo items right now. Promo items are generally just to get your brand name out there, get it familiar to your targets. But, I want my clothes to be inspired by the 80's and 90's. I absolutely love that era of fashion with the baggy clothes, color block, denim, overalls, all thee above lol. Not only the fashion, but I loved the movies like 16 candles, the breakfast club, etc. It was just a great era.
Who is your favorite designer?
My favorite designer would have to be between Alexander McQueen and Iris Van Herpen. Their styles are so avant garde, rebellious, unique, risky, it's everything art should be.
Was designing always your aspiration in life?
Actually no. I wanted to be a lot of things! I wanted to be a singer, astronomer, a composer like Mozart, and the most embarrassing of all...a rapper! In the midst of all those occupations though, I still loved clothes and dressing up.
